Online play in Ontario, explained

Checked October 8, 2026

By the Minimums Desk

Ontario runs online casinos under separate rules: iGaming Ontario conducts the market and manages it, and the AGCO acts as regulator. This page explains how the regulated online market works and says nothing about table minimums.

How the market works

On April 4, 2022, a regulated online gambling market launched in Ontario. Its conduct and management rest with iGaming Ontario. Regulation is the job of the AGCO, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Running the market and regulating it are separate jobs, held by separate bodies.

In Ontario, a private online casino must meet two conditions to be legal. The first is registration with the AGCO. The second is an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Both must be in place.

Two rules apply to the person playing. The minimum age for online play is 19, the same age Ontario sets for entering its casinos. A person can place bets only while physically inside Ontario. The test is location at the moment of the bet, not a home address.

Checking a site

Regulated sites appear in a list that iGaming Ontario posts at igamingontario.ca. That list is the place to check whether a private online casino is regulated in Ontario. A site's presence on the list is what counts, not what the site says about itself. Each time a new site comes up, the same list applies.

OLG.ca is run as an online casino by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, which is the provincial agency. It is run by the province, not by a private company.

Limits and stopping

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, as of May 14, 2026, has been managed by iGaming Ontario. Using it, someone can bar themselves from all regulated online gambling sites in Ontario, and OLG.ca is covered too. A custom term is possible; the fixed options are 5 years, 6 months and 1 year. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos.

With OLG's My PlayBreak, a person can self-exclude from casinos for 3 months, 6 months, or a period of 1 to 5 years. Once a casino break starts, no Ontario casino will admit the person, and ending the term early is not possible. The OLG Support Centre, at 1-800-387-0098, handles enrolment, a PlaySmart Centre, or the staff on site. ConnexOntario gives free and confidential help 24/7 by phone at 1-866-531-2600, send the text CONNEX to 247247, or use the chat at connexontario.ca.

Paid links on this site

Paid links on this site always carry an Ad label, and they show up on the home page alone. Three sit on the home page, one inside the menu, one directly beneath the first screen and one toward the bottom. The three share one online casino partner as their destination. This site gets a commission from them, and a different partner could take their place. These links serve Ontario only, so a player has to be physically in Ontario.

No paid link appears on this page. Low Limits receives no payment from casinos, OLG, the province or help services.
